You may be be marching into a new decade but that doesn’t mean time needs to march across your face.
How you use those lotions and potions is just as important as which ones you use. Here are some simple tips to maximize a nightly skin care routine and why it even matters. Best thing is, most of this work is done for you, as you sleep.
1. If you’re not getting enough rest, you need to check yourself before you prematurely age yourself. If I don't get enought sleep, it shows around my eyes and in my overall “glow”. I’ve been setting an alarm on my phone to remind myself to get to bed at a reasonable time, but before I crawl into bed, I make a pit stop at my bathroom sink.
2. Wash your face before bed. I just read not washing your face before bed can age your skin up to 7x faster. What, the what? Here’s why, all day long, our skin is fighting “free radical” damage. During the day, your skin is constantly fighting against the effects of the sun and pollution so give your skin a chance to repair itself overnight, cleanse before bed!
3. Apply that serum before your moisturizer. Serums are more concentrated with nutrients that can do some repair work. They penetrate best if they can seep directly into your skin. Lock that goodness in with a moisturizer, which helps seal in hydration.
A few minutes each night will reap years down the road. Your skin is worth a little time and energy. Take care of yourself and you will feel good and look good, it’s that simple!
